Norpatagonic Hospital
Neuquen, Argentina
The Norpatagonic Hospital, designed in 2019 in Argentine Patagonia, is conceived as a high-complexity healthcare facility aimed at providing comprehensive medical services for a vast region of the country. The design combines functionality, technology, and well-being, prioritizing the experience of both patients and healthcare professionals.
The hospital layout is structured around a main public axis that connects the primary entrance with a spacious lobby, designed as a meeting point and distribution hub for the different medical areas. This interior space, naturally illuminated through its permeable façade and direct connection to landscaped courtyards, creates an atmosphere of calm and transparency.
The architectural envelope is defined by a system of horizontal louvers that, besides giving identity to the building, provide solar control and enhance energy efficiency. The project incorporates sustainable strategies such as the use of natural light, cross ventilation, green roofs, and the integration of solar and photovoltaic panels.
The hospital design follows a modular and flexible logic that allows future expansion, while the clear circulation scheme separates public, technical, and service areas, optimizing the flows of patients, visitors, and staff.
The Norpatagonic Hospital thus stands as a benchmark in healthcare infrastructure in Argentina, combining architectural innovation, sustainability, and spatial quality in service of the community.
The Norpatagonic Hospital represents not only a major step forward in healthcare infrastructure for the region, but also a strong commitment to innovation, functionality, and environmental care. Every design decision — from spatial organization to material selection — was made with a focus on operational efficiency and the well-being of those who will inhabit the building: patients, healthcare professionals, and the broader community.
This project is the result of the collaborative effort of Nurit Schmulevich and Valentina Suárez, who left their mark at every stage of the design process, ensuring that architecture and healthcare come together to create a space capable of meeting both the present and future needs of Patagonia.
